Text and Image
We are used to using a wide selection of pens, pencils and tools when we do our drawing, it follows that we expect the same from our software, WorksWell does not disappoint.

Let's start with simple lines, these may be draw by selecting the line icon from the Toolbox and "click and dragging" on the page*. Working in the virtual world as opposed to the real world we are in the fortunate position of being able to change everything we have done. Notice the little colored handles on the line ends? These allow us to re-position the ends if we didn't get it right the first time. We can also reposition the entire line by selecting it (but not near a control handle) and dragging it around the work area. Although drawing a single line is useful you may wish to draw a number of joined line segments end to end, of course there is also a tool to let you do this**.

Straight lines are useful but we often find ourselves having to draw curved lines. Curved lines can be drawn using the curved line tool which works in a similar way to the straight line segment tool used earlier. Altering the curve is also achieved in a similar way by selecting and moving the colored control handles. In this case WorksWell gives us even greater control. Click on a selected lines point handle to reveal a further two control handles, these let you alter the curve of the line from a sharp corner to a smooth curve.

We've seen how we can do basic changes to a line directly but there are a great many further options in how we can alter the appearance of a line. To do this we use WorksWell's very powerful inspector facility. The inspector lets us alter such attributes as the thickness and color of the line, dashed lines and the type of line ends (arrow for instance). The inspector also allows us to examine the position and size of the selected object and change those by inputting the metrics precisely instead of relying on the look of the image or grid snap.

Using lines to draw is useful and often necessary but in many cases your work will require that you draw objects such as rectangles or circles. To make life easier WorksWell provides an interesting selection of predefined shapes for you to use.

As seen above in our line drawing examples similar ways of working are used for drawing shapes.

Select a shape tool and click and drag on the page to define the size and position of the shape. When selected the shape will show control handles (small squares on corners and edges of the shape) which can be used to change the dimension of the shape. Shapes may have additional control handles to alter shape specific attributes, for instance a rectangle has a further point to allow you to alter the radius of its rounded corners.

Extra Handles

To change our shape beyond the basic position and size we again make use of the inspector panel. Notice that line attributes similar to those we have already seen may be used and that further options such as a choice of rounded corner styles are available.

Rectangle Inspector

As shapes are objects with an enclosed area we can suppose that they might be useful objects to put things inside. WorksWell shapes can have both text and/or images placed within them - see image at top of page. The process of doing this couldn't be simpler, to enter text inside a shape simply double click on it to begin entering text. To specify an image in a shape simply drag an image file such as a tiff file onto the shape.

As you might have guessed already, adjustments to and alignment of the text and image of the shape may be made using the inspector panel.

Objects you draw on your page cover objects previously drawn, just as they would in reality. If you decide that you would like an object drawn earlier to appear in front, then do this by changing the objects display order. Take a look at the menu option "Arrange" ▸ "Ordering" and move the selected object forwards or backwards in the drawing order.

* Note that a single click on the toolbar will activate the tool for a single draw and then reverts back to the selection arrow tool. A double click locks the tool for multiple draws, select the arrow tool to go back to selection mode.

** When drawing with the multiple line segment tool double clicking or hitting the escape key stops adding more segments.
